SERVICE OVERVIEW
Keyword Research for UAE Businesses: Services, Process and Pricing
Keyword research UAE projects fail for one predictable reason. Businesses copy keyword lists built for the US or UK, sort them by volume, and then wonder why the traffic never turns into enquiries. The UAE is a bilingual, 200-nationality market where a single service gets searched in English, formal Arabic, Gulf Arabic and Latin-script Arabic, often by the same person in the same week.
Most Dubai agencies bundle keyword research into an SEO retainer. A spreadsheet arrives, a few hundred terms sorted by volume, and nobody explains which page each term belongs to. That’s where rankings stall.
Martian runs keyword research as a standalone service with its own deliverables and a fixed price. You get a map of what your buyers type, what Google shows them, and which page on your site should answer each query. Take it to any developer or content team. Or let us build it.

What Does Keyword Research Mean for a UAE Business?
Keyword research is the process of finding the exact phrases your potential customers search for, then deciding which of those phrases your website should rank for and on which page. For a UAE business, that process has three extra layers most global guides skip: language, location and licensing.
Language first. A clinic in Al Barsha gets searches for “dermatologist Dubai”, “طبيب جلدية دبي” and “dermatologist near me Barsha”. Three phrasings, three different SERPs, and a large gap in how much competition each one carries.
Location matters more than people expect. Dubai residents search by community. “Nursery JVC” and “nursery Jumeirah Village Circle” behave like separate keywords, and neither one looks much like “nursery Dubai” in the results.
Then licensing. Many UAE sectors are regulated, so some keywords simply can’t be targeted the way you’d target them elsewhere. Healthcare advertising in Dubai needs DHA approval. Financial promotion in DIFC falls under the DFSA. Your keyword plan has to respect those limits before a single page goes live.
Why Generic Keyword Lists Fail in the UAE Market
Volume numbers in the UAE are small and noisy. Google Keyword Planner rounds low-volume terms into broad ranges, and third-party tools estimate UAE data from much thinner clickstream panels than they use for the US. A keyword showing “50 searches a month” might be 20 or 200.
So we don’t lead with volume. We lead with three questions. Does this search mean the person wants to buy? What does Google currently show for it? Can your site realistically win a spot in that layout within six months?
A term with 90 searches and a commercial SERP full of local agencies is often worth more than a term with 2,000 searches that returns Wikipedia, a government portal and an AI Overview. The first one sends enquiries. The second one sends students.
The Bilingual Search Problem Most Agencies Ignore
Around 88% of UAE residents are expatriates, according to UAE government population figures, but Arabic search demand is still substantial, especially for government-adjacent services, real estate, healthcare and automotive. That demand needs its own research from scratch.
Arabic Keyword Research Beyond Direct Translation
Translate “car rental Dubai” word for word and you’ll land on a formal phrase that fewer people type. Emirati and wider Gulf users mix dialect terms, English loanwords and brand names. We research Arabic keywords from Arabic seed terms, Arabic autocomplete and Arabic SERPs, then compare them with the English set to find where demand overlaps and where it doesn’t.
Arabizi and Transliterated Searches
A share of UAE searches use Arabic words typed in Latin letters, sometimes with numbers standing in for Arabic sounds. Think “shisha cafe” versus “sheesha” versus “shesha”. These variants rarely show up in tool databases, yet they appear constantly in Search Console query reports. We pull them from your own data where it exists, because that’s the only reliable source.
Separate URLs or One Page?
Bilingual research also answers an architecture question. If the Arabic intent differs from the English intent, you need a dedicated Arabic URL with its own copy and hreflang tags. If intent matches closely, one well-built page per language pair is enough. We make that call keyword cluster by keyword cluster.
How Martian Approaches Keyword Research for UAE Businesses
Our process runs in five phases. Each one has a clear output, so you can see progress instead of waiting four weeks for a single spreadsheet.
Phase 1: Business and Revenue Discovery
We start with your margins. Which services earn the most per client? Which emirates do you actually serve? What does a qualified lead look like to your sales team? A 45-minute call and a short questionnaire give us the commercial filter every keyword later passes through.
Phase 2: Seed Collection From Real Sources
Seed terms come from your Google Search Console, Google Ads search term reports, sales call notes, WhatsApp enquiry logs and competitor pages. Customer language beats marketer language every time. If your buyers call it “villa maintenance” and your site says “residential facility management”, we’ll catch it here.
Phase 3: Expansion and SERP Analysis
We expand seeds using Semrush, Ahrefs, Google Keyword Planner and live SERP checks from a UAE location. Then we manually review the results page for every priority term. That manual step matters. It tells us whether Google shows a map pack, shopping ads, an AI Overview, a directory like Bayut or Dubizzle, or a list of agency pages. Each layout needs a different content type.
Phase 4: Intent Scoring and Clustering
Every keyword gets an intent label (commercial, transactional, informational or navigational) and a business value score from 1 to 5. Keywords that share a SERP get grouped into one cluster. One cluster means one URL. This is the step that prevents cannibalisation, where two of your own pages split the ranking signals for the same query.
Phase 5: Keyword Mapping and Content Plan
The final output assigns each cluster to an existing page or a new one. For existing pages, we note what’s missing: the H1, the missing subtopics, the internal links. For new pages, we write a short brief with the target cluster, recommended word count and question headings for AEO.
What You Get: Keyword Research Deliverables
Here’s the full set of deliverables:
- Keyword master sheet with volume ranges, keyword difficulty, intent label, business value score and current ranking position for each term.
- Keyword map linking every cluster to a single URL, with notes on required changes.
- Arabic keyword set researched natively, with English equivalents and a same-page or separate-page recommendation.
- Competitor keyword gap report showing terms three named competitors rank for and you don’t.
- AI Overview audit flagging which priority terms trigger AI Overviews and whether a competitor is cited.
- Seasonal calendar covering Ramadan, Eid, Dubai Shopping Festival, White Friday, back-to-school and GITEX demand shifts.
- 30-minute walkthrough call so your team can act on it without us.
Keyword Research in the Age of AI Overviews
Google’s AI Overviews now appear for a large share of informational queries, and many users get their answer without clicking. That changes how keywords should be valued.
We split your list into two groups. Click keywords are commercial and local terms where the searcher still needs to choose a provider, like “corporate lawyer Dubai” or “AC repair Mirdif”. Citation keywords are question-style terms where the goal is to be the source the AI quotes, like “how long does a UAE trademark registration take”. Both have value. They just need different page structures.
For citation terms, we recommend question-format H2s with a direct two-sentence answer underneath. That’s the format AI Overviews and AI Mode pull from most consistently, and it’s also what wins featured snippets.
Local Modifiers: Where UAE Buying Intent Hides
A plumber in Sharjah doesn’t need to rank for “plumber UAE”. Nobody searches that when a pipe bursts. They search “plumber Al Majaz” or “emergency plumber Sharjah near me”.
Community-level terms have lower volume and far lower competition. They also convert better, because the searcher has already told Google where they are. Our local layer covers each emirate you serve, the key communities within it, and “near me” patterns tied to your Google Business Profile categories.
One warning. Building 40 near-identical area pages is scaled content, and Google’s 2026 spam updates target exactly that pattern. We only recommend an area page when the area has genuinely different demand, services or proof. Otherwise the local terms go into one strong emirate page.
Seasonal Search Patterns in the UAE
UAE search demand moves with the calendar in ways a global tool won’t warn you about. During Ramadan, search activity shifts later into the evening, and demand rises for iftar venues, charity, gifting and home services. Retail terms climb during Dubai Shopping Festival and White Friday. Education and school uniform queries spike in August. Tech and B2B software terms rise around GITEX in October.
Your content needs to be indexed weeks before those peaks arrive. The seasonal calendar in every package gives you publishing deadlines working backwards from each window.
Industries We Research Keywords For
Keyword behaviour differs sharply by sector, so we adjust the method for each one.
Real estate. Portals like Property Finder and Bayut dominate head terms. We find community, project and investor-question keywords where an agency site can still win.
Healthcare. DHA, DoH and MOHAP advertising rules shape what you can target. We focus on symptom, treatment and location queries that stay compliant.
Education. KHDA ratings, curriculum names (British, IB, CBSE, American) and fee-related searches drive this sector, with sharp August and January peaks.
Ecommerce. Product-level, brand-plus-product and “buy online UAE” terms, plus Tabby and Tamara instalment searches, which are a real UAE buying signal.
B2B and SaaS. Low-volume, high-value terms like “ERP implementation Dubai” or “VAT software UAE”, where ten searches a month can mean a six-figure contract.
Keyword Research Pricing in the UAE
Most Dubai agencies won’t publish a keyword research price. We think you should know what you’re buying before the first call.

The same Martian team handles SEO content writing and technical SEO, so every keyword map we build is one we’d be happy to write from ourselves.
How Keyword Research Connects to the Rest of Your SEO
Keyword research is the foundation. What sits on top of it decides whether rankings follow. Once the map is ready, most clients move into one of three next steps: on-page optimisation of existing pages, new content production from the page briefs, or landing page development for paid and organic campaigns. If your site has crawl or indexing issues, a technical audit should come first, because the best keyword map won’t help pages Google can’t read.
Between one and five weeks. A single-service business in one emirate takes about 7 to 10 working days, while a bilingual ecommerce catalogue across several emirates can take a month or more.
Often, yes. Many UAE residents who speak English still search in Arabic for certain services, particularly government-related, legal, real estate and automotive queries. We check your sector’s Arabic demand during discovery and tell you honestly if it’s too small to justify separate pages.
Semrush, Ahrefs and Google Keyword Planner for expansion and difficulty data, plus Google Search Console for your real query data. Every priority keyword is also checked manually on a live UAE results page, because tool estimates for small markets can be well off.
An SEO audit checks what’s wrong with your site. Keyword research decides what your site should rank for. They work best together, but they answer different questions.
Yes. Every deliverable is built to be handed over, and the walkthrough call is there so your team knows how to use it.
Every three to six months for most UAE businesses. Seasonal peaks, new competitors and changes to AI Overview coverage all shift what’s worth targeting.
